ANOINTING OF THE SICK

  •        Anointing of the Sick (once called Extreme Unction) is the sacrament that is received by those who are ill or suffering from serious illness. By the sacred anointing and the prayer of the priest, the whole Church commends those who are sick to Christ. The sick person receives the Holy Spirit’s gifts of strength, faith, peace, and courage, and his or her suffering is united with the suffering of Christ. Catholics today are encouraged to receive this Sacrament not only when they are on their deathbed, but at any time they are about to undergo serious surgery or are in ill health.
St. James offers a communal reception of this Sacrament annually in the fall. However, anytime this Sacrament is warranted, special arrangements may be made by contacting Father Santy.
